** Changed in: syslinux (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Triaged
** Changed in: syslinux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => Medium
** Description changed:
- Boot a lubuntu amd64-desktop iso by selecting it in the boot order menu
- which is f11 on my motherboard and and at the first menu select English
- for the language and then at that menu try to boot from the first hard
- disk at the try lubuntu without installing , install lubuntu... menu .
- It will say boot failed press any key to continue and then the system
- will reboot and boot up normally but will say the boot has failed. I am
- trying to chainload grub2 when booting from first hard disk.
+ 1. Ensure that there is an installed OS
+ 2. Boot to live system on BIOS
+ 3. Select language
+ 4. select boot from first hard drive
+ EXPECTED RESULT
+ The system boots normally from the first hard drive.
- Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch)
- Release: 15.04
+ ACTUAL RESULT
+ The system does not boot, but instead prints "Boot failed: press a key to retry..."
- syslinux:
- Installed: 3:6.03~pre18+dfsg-1ubuntu1
- Candidate: 3:6.03~pre18+dfsg-1ubuntu1
- Version table:
- *** 3:6.03~pre18+dfsg-1ubuntu1 0
- 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
- 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
- https://gist.github.com/anonymous/5cd993b01c8b6dae24ca is the iso tracker hardware profile.
+ AFFECTED VERSIONS
+ Xenial to Cosmic (perhaps even earlier)
- I expected the boot to chainload the first disk in my case my crucial
- mx100 ssd which is the first device in boot order.
-
- Instead my uefi system finds no bootable system and restarts. I also get
- the same result in some virtual machines using kvm.

+ NOTES
+ EFI systems use GRUB2 instead of isolinux and they don't even have the option to boot to the first hard disk, itself seeming like a bit of a bug.
