Title:
boot from first hard disk fails

Status in syslinux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  1. Ensure that there is an installed OS
  2. Boot to live system on BIOS
  3. Select language
  4. select boot from first hard drive

  EXPECTED RESULT
The system boots normally from the first hard drive.

  ACTUAL RESULT
The system does not boot, but instead prints "Boot failed: press a key to retry..."

  AFFECTED VERSIONS
Xenial to Cosmic (perhaps even earlier)

  NOTES
EFI systems use GRUB2 instead of isolinux and they don't even have the option to boot to the first hard disk, itself seeming like a bit of a bug.
