Title:
18.04 Server "Whole Disk" option does not allow LVM

Status in debian-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a feature request/WISHLIST item.

It's pretty common (at least here) for us to format VM images with
full-disk ("whole disk") LVM. Normally we have to drop to a shell and
preconfigure that beforehand so I was super excited to see the new
"Whole Disk" option in the new-style installer.

However, it doesn't have "LVM Physical Partition" as an option. I'm
genuinely puzzled by this because I would think it's an extremely
common pattern. I must be wrong.

We would really appreciate it if the default installer supported
whole-disk LVM physical partition. Also, considering how different
the interface is, this might not even be a d-i request any more but it
  seems likely.

To clarify, this is the installer equivalent of a 'pvcreate /dev/sdb',
whereas the current workflow only supports a 'pvcreate /dev/sdb1'.
Using full disk LVM PV's makes expansion of disk (either iSCSI, VMDK,
  etc) trivial.
