So, in short, it seems to me that the warning should have said that this
would create problems with my current install, not just the old one that
I was wiping out, and it seems there should be an option to fix the
problem--format to boot in EFI mode for future use. It could have told
me what you're telling me here, but it told me something else that
suggested that this wasn't actually a problem. I "chose not to" because
the warning didn't clearly apply to my situation.

I had tried booting in bios mode and on my computer I couldn't get it to
work for some reason, which is why I booted in EFI mode. So I didn't see
any option other than booting in EFI and trying to partition it in EFI.
