Thanks for responding. Yes, it warned me that I already had another
operating system installed that "might" not boot if I proceeded to
install in this way. Since I was wiping the disk clean, I assumed this
wasn't an issue. It didn't tell me that the "current" install wouldn't
work even if I erased the old operating system and
reformatted/repartitioned the hard drive. In any case, I did as you
suggested, choosing the "use entire disk" option and letting the
installer do everything automatically.

It would be nice if there were an option when you get that warning to
have the installer do what you're suggesting--set up the EFI system that
one assumes is automatically getting set up when one boots in EFI mode
and chooses to repartition the disk. Not being an expert, I'm not sure
how I could have successfully done my own partitioning within the
installer and had it work. Maybe I should have just gone with bios mode,
but I vaguely recall something not working with that.
