  Hi,

  I am not sure if this applies to software sources or update manager or
  ubuntu software center.

  Basically a scenario like this:

  1. Presence of ubuntu repository mirrors either at local company/workplace
  2. Local ISP repository mirrors
  3. Ubuntu country mirrors

  As most of the time these mirrors are much faster than accessing the
  ubuntu country mirror repositories e.g. za.archive.ubuntu.com, it
  would be very nice if there was an option to specify that if a package
  is available from two or more sources then we rank them by priority.
  Like in the above case we'd give priority to the LAN mirror (1)
  followed by isp (2) and then country (3).

  I am just providing this example but i am sure it can be much
  improved. the idea is to speed up the download and possible save on
  bandwidth costs where applicable. ofcourse, it is not possible with
  regards to ppas, etc but atleast for the main ubuntu updates i don't
  see why not.

  I tried including my local lan mirrors on software sources but it
  never fetches packages from there!

  Just a curiosity, there is a folder called mirrors in /var/lib/apt/ so
  not sure what that is for.
