I get the problem described here and similar messages in syslog/dmesg

My installation medium is correct:

# dd if=ubuntu-15.04-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdc

# dd if=/dev/sdc of=test.iso count=2247744

When I tried to verify the disc from the target machine in the 15.04
Live session, I got the IO error described above...

I'm currently trying to install using another sd card, but this issue is
clearly not invalid and not a corrupted iso issue...

Bug description:
  I'm installing Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 using a live DVD. I have attemped to
  install it using two different usb sticks as well, with similar
  results. I have also re-downloaded the ISO, in case it was damaged
  somehow.

  The installer gets to roughly the part where it starts to actually
  install the OS (after asking for username, password, etc.), then the
  popup appears, saying that there's an IO error.
