Public bug reported:
I was installing ubuntu 14.04 on an external USB hard drive as part of a dual boot system. I set up 4 partitions on the Hard Drive: /boot, /, /home, and swap. Installation was progressing and then it crashed. the external HD is 600 GB, half of which I dedicated to ubuntu. The file systems for /boot, /, and /home were ext4s. 1 GB for /boot, 9 GB for /, 278 GB for /home, and 8 GB for swap. I am typing and sending this from the same computer that I tried to perform this operation. Other than that I do not have any idea why the installation crashed.
I can't fulfill the bug reporting guidelines such as submitting the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman because I do not have access to folders in the system right now as I am typing this.
