Have you tried reinstalling it?  Can you boot from the live cd, mount
your root fs, chroot into it and run "grub-probe -t fs /"?  Assuming it
is /dev/sda1, you can do this with:

sudo -s
mount -t xfs /dev/sda1 /mnt
for f in proc sys dev ; do mount --bind /$f /mnt/$f ; done
chroot /mnt
grub-probe -t fs /
dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc

At the menu, make sure you have configured grub to install on your boot
drive ( /dev/sda? ).

  Incomplete

Bug description:
  until the past week, 14.04 was working fine on this system, with a single partition (for /(root) /boot & /home) mounted on XFS.
  since then, it broke, and GRUB cant boot from it anymore!

  I tried to reinstall grub, run grub-install, with no sucess
