9.10 reached end of life several years ago, are you able to reproduce
this on 12.04+?

Title:
install procedure stops with live system started and no data written
  to disc

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I start selecting "Installing Ubuntu". I answer all questions in a
german vanilla fashion. He claims to start the partitioning tool, then
just starts the live session, leaving the hard disk untouched.

In the live session I start "Install Ubuntu 9.10" and the same here. I
have to answer all over again (tho he remembers my name and username)
and then after starting partitioning he just stops, and the live
system is still on as if I never tried to install anything.

  Workaround appreciated.

Sounds close to bug # 430607 but in my case the install procedure
  actually started.
