Automated testing of installations on top of btrfs is added to jenkins and it's been green for almost a week:
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/view/Trusty/view/Smoke%20Testing/job/trusty-desktop-i386-smoke-default_btrfs/
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/view/Trusty/view/Smoke%20Testing/job/trusty-desktop-amd64-smoke-default_btrfs/

Marking this as a resolve issue with desktop installer.

Title:
partman-btrfs fails to format as btrfs filesystem

Status in “partman-btrfs” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
mkfs.btrfs does extra checks to see if location it's formatting
appears to contain any other filesystems.

Instead it unhelpfully prints a message to stderr:

/dev/sda6 appears to contain an existing filesystem (crypto_LUKS).
Error: Use the -f option to force overwrite.

And exits non-zero, which results in partman-btrfs to throw a generic
error of "failed to create partition". Well, if I've asked a partition
to be formatted with a given filesystem in the installer, I do want to
  do that...
