Title:
Saucy ubiquity crashes with kernel error
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
This is actually just a follow up on bug #1220165 so it should
probably be marked as a duplicate, but this time I launched ubiquity
from the terminal with the command "ubiquity -d" in hopes that it
might provide more helpful info.
I'm testing on bare metal:
Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz
Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Intel N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
2GB DDR2 RAM
The existing drive structure is a quite simple dual-boot of Lubuntu
Saucy i386 and Ubuntu GNOME Saucy i386 on a physical 80 GB drive:
ubuntu-gnome at ubuntu-gnome:~$ sudo parted -l
Model: ATA WDC WD800BB-63JK (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 1049kB 39.7GB 39.7GB primary ext4 boot
2 39.7GB 80.0GB 40.3GB extended
6 39.7GB 77.5GB 37.8GB logical ext4
5 77.5GB 80.0GB 2525MB logical linux-swap(v1)
Warning: Unable to open /dev/sr0 read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/sr0
has been opened read-only.
Error: Can't have a partition outside the disk!
I also decided this time to record the UUID's prior to trying the
install.
ubuntu-gnome at ubuntu-gnome:~$ sudo blkid -c /dev/null
/dev/loop0: TYPE="squashfs"
/dev/sr0: LABEL="Ubuntu-GNOME 13.10 i386" TYPE="iso9660"
/dev/sda1: UUID="9925ab08-025e-433b-be3e-b71703a99549" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda5: UUID="846a1c94-cadb-499d-a5f8-6317e7e0b918" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda6: UUID="13cf3a15-45c3-4eef-bae7-6fa29a4a50b9" TYPE="ext4"
When offered installation options I chose "Erase disk and install
Ubuntu GNOME" and shortly thereafter I was presented with that message
about the kernel not being informed of modifications, and this is what
the new drive/partition info is while ubiquity is still in a frozen
state:
ubuntu-gnome at ubuntu-gnome:~$ sudo parted -l
Model: ATA WDC WD800BB-63JK (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 1049kB 77.9GB 77.9GB primary ext4
2 77.9GB 80.0GB 2136MB extended
5 77.9GB 80.0GB 2136MB logical linux-swap(v1)
Warning: Unable to open /dev/sr0 read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/sr0
has been opened read-only.
Error: Can't have a partition outside the disk!
ubuntu-gnome at ubuntu-gnome:~$ sudo blkid -c /dev/null
/dev/loop0: TYPE="squashfs"
/dev/sr0: LABEL="Ubuntu-GNOME 13.10 i386" TYPE="iso9660"
/dev/sda1: UUID="9925ab08-025e-433b-be3e-b71703a99549" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda5: UUID="846a1c94-cadb-499d-a5f8-6317e7e0b918" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda6: UUID="13cf3a15-45c3-4eef-bae7-6fa29a4a50b9" TYPE="ext4"
It's hard for me to read that until I get on another computer that's
tweaked for my limited vision so please give me time to review this.
Sorry to be so dense, I hope I didn't make too many typos, and
apologies if I'm only wasting electronic ink.
