[Bug 1203852] [NEW] Lubuntu Saucy fails to boot after installation

I'm not at all sure what's wrong but I'm testing the Lubuntu i386
20130722 Alternate image and after the installation completes I simply
can't boot into a working DE. The disc ejects as it should and the boot
process appears to be trying to do something, but nothing ever happens.
