I can confirm that Ubuntu sets the host-name field properly on DHCP query and conforms to the RFC.
If the server doesn't parse that properly and updates the DNS accordingly, it's a failure of the server not the client.
** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Invalid

Title:
Computer name is not recognized by DHCP of FRITZ!Box
Status in “isc-dhcp” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I have a FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170, Firmware-Version 29.04.29 DSL router
at home.
Computer name is not registered when booting Ubuntu (up-to-date 7.04).
It works correctly on Windows.
Looks like DHCP server on FRITZ!Box doesn't receive correct hostname.
It doesn't matter if I use cable or WLAN.
