[Bug 1211807] Re: Mint 12 and 13 do not see any partition table entries during install (and do not allow making them)

I have discovered (via internet post) that the block is caused by
software raid metadata on the HP Phoenix hard drive.

This can be removed by the command:

# dmraid -rE

However, I think that partman should be aware of this metadata - or
there be something in the install documentation to workaround this
problem.

After using dmraid as above, I was able to install ubuntu (and mint)
successfully.

Title:
Mint 12 and 13 do not see any partition table entries during install
(and do not allow making them)

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Booting live CD for Mint 12 or 13 (same result) on HP Phoenix machine
with AMD 8 core 3.1 GHz and 8GB ram.

Shows a blank partition table (but the boot device is correct as
  /dev/sda).

In a shell, fdisk works, as does gparted - I can add and delete
partitions. gdisk works as well, and I can create or delete GTA
partitions. None of these will be detected by ubiquity - deleting all
partitions using other tools works, but ubiquity does not see a
partition table and I cannot add there.

I tried partman by itself and it fails. All other partition managers
  work normally.

I have (now) succesfully installed and booted Gentoo on this hardware
on the same settings (Legacy boot, UEFI disabled).
