appears that the radeon driver is the offending party because after the
issue of the FGLRX 12.9 driver everything seems to work ok again. even
on kernel version 3.5. thank you amd driver team.

** Project changed: linux-kernel-headers => libdrm (Ubuntu)

Title:
  a-10 4600m boots to black screen unless nomodeset option in grub with
  kernel newer than 3.2

Status in “libdrm” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I was very excited to try out the new beta but couldn't get it to boot
  without the nomodeset option. This problem also comes up If I upgrade
  the kernel to 3.4 or 3.5 in 12.4. I think it might be a problem with
  some trinity chips. I have tried using the discrete gpu (7490)
  disabled enabled I have no idea why lenovo chose to put a weaker
  discrete chip than the integrated one.
