Title:
dpkg should install other packages in the background while promting
  for user input

Status in “dpkg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: dpkg

A dist-upgrade usually takes a long time, which is why you would
probably leave the computer while executing it. The problem with this
is the many required user inputs that interrupt the upgrade and sets
it on hold for hours. Therefore, I propose that dpkg should, while
promting for user input for one package, continue processing other
packages in the background. This will enable the user to deal with all
the packages requiring input at the end of the upgrade or to do it
during the upgrade, at his choice.
