It's also not a bug. By default, the installer will install grub to the
correct location to make your system bootable. If you override this,
it's assumed that you have special boot requirements and know what
you're doing.

Bug description:
  If you manually parition your hard drive on a dual boot computer in a
  manner such as

  /dev/sda1 - windows files(os)
  /dev/sda2 - windows
  /dev/sda3 - windows
  /dev/sda4 extended partition
  /dev/sda5 linux swap
  /dev/sda6 ext4 /boot
  /dev/sda6 ext4 /
  /dev/sda7 ext4 /home

  The you install ubuntu and choose to install grub to /boot rather than
  sda (MBR) the ubuntu install fails to find grub and boot after the
  installation completes.
