This should be fixed in versions 10.04 and later.  Can you confirm that
this is no longer an issue for you?

  When I try to boot in recovery mode, I get to the initial recovery
  screen, but as soon as I touch the keyboard, errors appear on the
  screen and I cannot do anything from there (see appended screenshot).
