User reports that he solved his problem by running Grub-Customizer and ticking the "Os-prober" option of his Windows entry, which probably means that there was a "GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true" entry in his /etc/default/grub .
Now investigating why os-prober was inactivated.

Dual-boot WIndows7 / Ubuntu. HP ProBook 4330s.
After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10:
- the GRUB menu did not display the Windows7 entry any more.
- os-prober returns:
/dev/sda1:Windows Recovery Environment (loader):Windows:chain
- update-grub returns:
