Thank you for the time in responding to my problem.
I am able to boot pass my Compaq splash screen to the screen where it
asks which version would I'd like to run (Ubuntu with Linux 11.10,
Ubuntu with Linux 11.10 Recovery Mode, and two other options). When
trying to run Ubuntu with Linux 11.10 in regular bootup, it goes to the
purple Ubuntu screen with the loading dots yet stays there for hours on
end. When clicking the Esc button, I am directed to code that reads
something like this "unable to connect to system bus: failed to connect
to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: no such file or directory".
Running Ubuntu in Recovery Mode goes into a screen that allows me to run
root commands, bootup regularly, among many other options. When trying
to run Ubuntu from here, I receive a message stating "Warning: Fake
initctl called, doing nothing." and a blinking cursor yet I am unable to
type anything or escape out of the message and it appears to just sit
there and do nothing.
Does this problem sound like I need to reinstall Ubuntu as you mentioned
previously, or is there something else that I can do to reach the Ubuntu
desktop?
Thank you very much for your help.

Title:
Installation of Ubuntu keeps crashing towards the end of the
installation
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
While installing Ubuntu, the installation goes well until the end
where it begins to download language packs then "installing system"
and the status bar is all the way at the end indicating that it is
nearing the end of installation yet it has crashed the last 3 times
that I have attempted to install.
I am installing from a CD that I made from a downloaded .ISO. This
same ISO, I had used to previously install on this same computer by
using CloneDrive. I am currently running a "trial" of Ubuntu from the
CD, so I know that the CD is good. The ISO is Ubuntu for 64-bit
machines.
My computer is a Compaq Presario CQ62-215DX (I believe the last part
215DX is right but not completely sure). It has 2GB RAM DDR3, Hitachi
120GB SATA HDD (came from a Acer computer that I took apart and this
HDD has been formatted within Windows Vista using TestDisk), 64-bit
AMD processor...not sure what other specs are needed to know. Windows
7 came pre-installed on the computer on a 250GB HDD but I put that
away and traded it for the 120GB HDD.
Oddly enough, it says that Ubuntu is installed on the machine because
when I try to install Ubuntu, it asks if I want to install side by
side with Ubuntu 11.10, erase Ubuntu, and all of the other options.
However, when I booted up my computer, it did not take me to Ubuntu
but after the Compaq splash screen, to a black screen with a blinking
cursor. I was able to get into Ubuntu using the CD.
