[Bug 950397] Re: bright screen flash during bootup on EeePC 900

The flash occurs about 14 seconds after the kernel is selected and boot
begins. I let grub time out rather than hit enter because I was
recording it with a video camera, but I don't suppose that makes any
difference.

If the problem is specific to the machine and a solution isn't readily
available, is there some sort of workaround I could use. Maybe not load
graphical stuff during boot (before the Ubuntu logo, at least)?

As for choosing to report against Plymouth, that was my best guess at
the time. :)

Title:
bright screen flash during bootup on EeePC 900

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
During bootup of Ubuntu 12.04, there is sometimes a bright flash on
the screen, before the Ubuntu logo appears.

It doesn't always happen, but when it does, it starts as a bright
border around the outside of the screen. Sometimes that's all that
there is; at other times it will include more of the screen, even the
  entire screen.

It actually happened this time I booted, though not very
spectacularly, so there might be some useful information in the
  attached files.

If images are needed, I can provide those, but as it doesn't happen at
every boot, I need to video the bootup sequence until I get one.

The first time it happened, early in the Precise development cycle
(maybe earlier), I was anxious that it might be damaging to my screen.
I imagine then that it might worry unsuspecting new users as well.
