@ojordan: Ok. As long as the extra boot partitions serve a purpose, I
guess it's fine to leave them. I'd been using rEFIt instead to select
between installed OSes. How about the swap partitions, though? Aren't
they redundant?

Title:
Installation creates duplicate Apple Boot and swap partitions

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The PowerPC Alternate image from 2012-03-01
  (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily/current/) creates duplicate
swap and apple boot partitions when Guided-Resize is chosen in the
partitioning scheme. I would expect it to use the existing swap and
  Apple Boot partitions.
