During installation I've selected installation of 3rd parity packages but not downloading of the updates during installation.
Previous installation on the same machine under the same conditions except installation of 3rd parity packages that was not marked - worked fine.

Title:
Installation of Ubuntu keeps crashing towards the end of the
  installation

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
While installing Ubuntu, the installation goes well until the end
where it begins to download language packs then "installing system"
and the status bar is all the way at the end indicating that it is
nearing the end of installation yet it has crashed the last 3 times
that I have attempted to install.

I am installing from a CD that I made from a downloaded .ISO. This
same ISO, I had used to previously install on this same computer by
using CloneDrive. I am currently running a "trial" of Ubuntu from the
CD, so I know that the CD is good. The ISO is Ubuntu for 64-bit
  machines.

My computer is a Compaq Presario CQ62-215DX (I believe the last part
215DX is right but not completely sure). It has 2GB RAM DDR3, Hitachi
120GB SATA HDD (came from a Acer computer that I took apart and this
HDD has been formatted within Windows Vista using TestDisk), 64-bit
AMD processor...not sure what other specs are needed to know. Windows
7 came pre-installed on the computer on a 250GB HDD but I put that
away and traded it for the 120GB HDD.

Oddly enough, it says that Ubuntu is installed on the machine because
when I try to install Ubuntu, it asks if I want to install side by
side with Ubuntu 11.10, erase Ubuntu, and all of the other options.
However, when I booted up my computer, it did not take me to Ubuntu
but after the Compaq splash screen, to a black screen with a blinking
cursor. I was able to get into Ubuntu using the CD.
