Public bug reported:

While upgrading from Xubuntu 11.10 to 12.04, my computer stopped doing
anything for 12 hours. Clicking on "terminal" in the update manager, I
found a message that "xscreensaver or xflock is running and needs to be
stopped". Had I not clicked terminal, the upgrade would have failed, and
the system would then require a complete, fresh installation. There is
no indication that there is a hidden message, if the user does not know
to click terminal and look, the messge is never seen. Unfortunately, I
have not run upgrades in a while, and forgot to turn off xscreensaver.

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
