Could you please re-run the install in debug mode (`ubiquity --debug`
from a terminal window) and then run `sudo apport-collect 861609` when
it crashes again?

The debconf passthrough issue is definitely the heart of this, but we'll
need to see what's going into debconf to be able to trace the problem
back to the source.

  I was installing Ubuntu 11.10 to a system where i used unetbootin to
  make a entry for the .iso and then installed to the higlighted
  partition (http://i.imgur.com/TwczT.png) with swap on the left . this
  system already has ubuntu 11.04 installed.
