Fair enough. I just thought since the root privileges remain 'open' (by
this crashed instance of Synaptic so no other application can use them),
the system might somehow be more vulnerable. But I'm no expert.

Title:
Synaptic freezes when I select a package to install and scroll through
  list of dependencies

Status in “synaptic” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: synaptic

Whenever I select a package to install which requires multiple other
packages (e.g. KOffice or k3b on Ubuntu) and the dialogue pops up
asking about all the extra packages to install, when I scroll through
the list in the dialogue, Synaptic suddenly freezes. Then it's
impossible to even force-quit (via system-monitor, or otherwise),
because synaptic is no longer on the list of processes. So the only
thing to do it to restart the system.
