Thanks for the info and description Chris. I am going to try and reproduce this on my test machine.

Title:
update manager 'applying changes' dialog does not honor de-selecting
the 'Close this dialog after...' checkbox
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release: 10.04
update-manager:
Installed: 1:0.134.11.1
Candidate: 1:0.134.11.1
Version table:
*** 1:0.134.11.1 0
500 http://ubuntu.media.mit.edu/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages
500 http://ubuntu.media.mit.edu/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1:0.134.7 0
500 http://ubuntu.media.mit.edu/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
Problem:
When applying an update, an 'Applying changes' dialog appears with an embedded terminal in it. All of the dpkg goings on are printed to this shell during the installation/configuration process. I like to *not* have this window close automatically so I can review what was actually done.
Regardless of the 'Close this dialog after the changes have
successfully been applied' checkbox state, the dialog *always* closes
immediately. I see this as not only annoying (and broken) but also as
a security issue, because I am unable to inspect what exactly
transpired during the upgrade/installation.
The default behavior *should* be to have this checkbox un-checked, and
then remember your preference if you change it.
