This change would break usage of tools like 'tee' which multiplex the
output for e.g. logging proposes, so sorry but no. And adding -y should
be a user decision as it is a potentially dangerous option… So double
no.

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)

Title:
Recognize if apt isn't on a tty, don't wait for input

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
If apt-get or apt-add-repository don't have a tty and are being run
non-interactively (e.g. through cloud-init), they will hang waiting
for confirmation if the user doesn't specify -y. Ideally they should
either fail and log that the user must specify -y, or succeed without
trying to grab the user's input.
