[Bug 720717] [NEW] lcd brightness changes unwanted

I'm using ubuntu maverick with latest updates on a Dell Latitude E6400
laptop. Since some days the brightness of the LCD is changed non-
deterministically to a certain value. After that it is possible to
change the brightness to my previously set value as normal. There are
several scripts/ways in ubuntu to change the LCD brightness. Please help
me to provide more information to uncover this strange behaviour.
