sudo from thin client not working

I am not sure if this is a bug.

If I try to run any administrative program while logged in on a thin client
I get this error in a pop up window:
"Failed to run gedit as user root.
Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file"

Same if I run using gksudo
#gksudo gedit
Error copying '/home/admin1/.Xauthority' to '/tmp/libgksu-mej4gQ':
Permission denied

But if I just use sudo it works fine.

Both work fine directly on the server.
