Actually I just got a Dell Laptop D531 and its support page had Ubuntu 7.04 Drivers. so naturally I downloaded Feisty as I had always wanted to use Linux on my Laptops.

In the beginning it was pretty fascinating but now it appears to be no different from Windows ! ( No offense )

On the other hand I feel the problems are much more on AMD platform compared to Intel.

Right now the shut down problem is really bugging me !

A single hard-boot and my installation is gone !
  Thanks for the reply.
  Any ideas !

I've run feisty here at my work for a while now on 30+ servers, seems ok
to me.

I run feisty on my laptop. Suspend/resume works fine on mine (System 76 and
Acer TravelMate 2200), and I've never needed a re-install. What exact
symptoms are you having?

So what happens when you try to shut it down? Nothing? Or it shuts down
and the power doesn't actually turn off? If so, that's an ACPI issue, and
maybe either a bug that should be reported, or often, a bios update you
can do that will fix the problem. There's a LOT of buggy bios' out there.

Well, yeah, Dapper's the LTS release, and is older.

> Feisty / Gusty are just Canonical's obsessions ( of launching a version every months; whether they are bugfree or not ).

Well, they're not "obsessions", as you put it, they're just regular releases.
Sometimes things have bugs, and if you're running into them, best bet is to
ask on lists like this, and get help with them. That's why we're here.

If you like stability, why didn't you stick with Dapper?

Cheers,
Scott
