Yes you can....you just can't do it with transparent proxying....you need
to use another method.  I use pam-auth in place of transparent and it
works for us.  

One more thing....I've used both Squidguard and Dansguardian extensively. 
SG is great, but remember it is ONLY a URL filter....whereas DG gives you
the added layer of protection in that it looks at the content if the site
is not in the URL list.  We settled on DG for this reason.  I use an SME
server (based on CentOS) running DG with the dungog modules installed for
the web interface.  I also have an IPCop server with SG that I use for our
public wi-fi here at school.  (We have a closed wireless network and an
open wireless network...the open is limited to public areas like the
lobby, gym, and cafeteria...I figure since the public taxes pay for the
wireless....they ought to be able to use it...but it IS filtered).
