If you open up a terminal in the two situations (server and thin client)
and type "locale" is there any difference between the two outputs?

For example, here's what I see (you should probably see something like
"IT_UTF-8" instead of C):

	gavinmc at retina-bcl:~$ locale
	LANG=C
	LC_CTYPE="C"
	LC_NUMERIC="C"
	LC_TIME="C"
	LC_COLLATE="C"
	LC_MONETARY="C"
	LC_MESSAGES="C"
	LC_PAPER="C"
	LC_NAME="C"
	LC_ADDRESS="C"
	LC_TELEPHONE="C"
	LC_MEASUREMENT="C"
	LC_IDENTIFICATION="C"
	LC_ALL=

Could you reply with the output from the situations?

Thanks,
Gavin
