Edubuntu Installation freezes

Hello,

I had a similar problem with Edubuntu version 6.06 and 6.06.1, when I
tried to install on a Dell Optiplex GX260 computer. The computer had a
wiped hard-drive (no operating system). The computer had a 2 GHz P4
processor, 512 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive. The install option was to
completely wipe out the entire hard drive (no dual boot).

The install process would run OK and then during the "Select and Install
Software" step (after about 15 minutes) the display would go black and
display a couple of small white squares on the screen.

The computer has the following Video Specs:

Video Adapter VGA
VESA VBE Present Version 3.0, 0 MB VRAM size
VESA VBE OEM Brookdale-G Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA Bios
Video Bias-Segment C000h

I then tried to do the same install on another Dell GX260 computer in
our shop (using the same install CD,s) and got the exact same results.

The same install CD,s worked OK when used on other computers in our shop
that were not Dell Optiplex 260 computers.

I fixed the problem by downloading the Edubuntu Live CD (version 6.06.1)
which loaded up just fine on the computer. I then proceeded to do the
install by using the install icon on the desktop. The install completed
OK, but I had to reduce the screen resolution to get the desktop to fit
on my computer screen.

I finally got a good install, but I am wondering if the problems I had
doing the normal install (with the install CD) was caused by the video
card in the Dell Optiplex GX260 computers.

Hope this helps..

Jim
