Dear Jane,
I work with Save the Children in La Paz, Bolivia. My team is preparing
to launch an ambitious initiative in education using information and
communication technology (ICT). We are preparing the 1st edition of an
innovative and participative IT curriculum for Save the Children's
program for adolescent development called Tomando Decisiones or "Making
Decisions". The program's traditional focuses are sexual and
reproductive health, vocational orientation, and leadership skills.
The technology curriculum will be used by teachers in partner
organizations that have computer labs in El Alto, the satellite city of
La Paz and also one of the poorest areas in the hemisphere. Although,
we have our own methodology that blends ICTs with traditional focus
areas such as the arts and sciences and holistic focuses such as
creativity and self-esteem, Edubuntu will provide a new dynamic to the
training.
We are encouraged to see that there are people who share the same
philosophy for education as we do. We plan to contribute as much as
possible to the development and replication of our curriculum and
Edubuntu in Bolivia. Save the Children has a strong influence in the
country and we have funding and resources to significantly improve
education for those in need. Thanks for supporting this cause. We hope
to work as much as possible to promote Edubuntu.
Sincerely,
Seth
