I'm not aware of anyone being slated to keep official minutes, so I've
transcribed my notes from today's Edubuntu Cookbook meeting below. A
follow-up meeting was scheduled for Thursday, June 15th at 20:00 UTC,
and is expected to last approximately 40 minutes.
The topic of this meeting was "Preparing for Edgy".
Logistics
The group voted to use Subversion to manage the Edgy cookbook
development. Working format was narrowed down to either Docbook or
LaTeX, and a final vote will be held at Thursday's meeting.
The group voted to stick to a self publisher (e.g. lulu.com or similar)
for the Edgy in-print cookbook. Discussion of whether to stick with a
self publisher for Edgy+1 and Edgy+2 or look into working with a
traditional publishing company was tabled. Time permitting, we will
revisit the Edgy+* publishing debate at the meeting on Thursday.
I'll start an email list thread for the LaTeX vs. Docbook debate so that
we can get discussion out of the way now rather than have it take up too
much meeting time. I'm hoping for a quick vote on Thursday.
Name
It was suggested that "cookbook" might not be the best project title, as
we've diverged considerably from a cookbook-like format. Expect much
debate to ensue regarding re-naming. :)
Content
The following content was suggested for addition to the current content
outline:
-- A chapter on basic networking concepts.
-- A chapter on preparing hardware before installation (especially for
the LTSP set-up).
-- Fleshing out the application summaries to include notes on their
in-classroom uses, perhaps with links to sample data files.
-- A "troubleshooting" section at the end of each chapter aimed at
helping users solve problems encountered during the task(s) outlined in
that chapter.
Organization
We discussed re arranging the chapters to create three sections in each
of the LTSP and Stand-Alone parts: Pre-Install, Installation, and
Post-Install. The post-install sections are likely to absorb the
material from some of the "shiny things" chapters, such as configuring
printing. I will prepare a sample/draft outline to use as a starting
point for discussion at Thursday's meeting.
Following Up
A follow-up meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 15th at 20:00 UTC in
#ubuntu-meeting on freenode. I will post a meeting agenda ASAP. As
always, potential contributors and random spectators are welcome, and
active Cookbook team members are encouraged to attend.
