Hi Robie,
I hardly think this was jumping the gun.
As previously discussed, voting via email is rather unusual for the DMB. In this case, we are talking about an Ubuntu Contributing Developer application, which grants no actual upload rights, and thus has a negligible potential for trouble.
In my inquiries to the applicant, I made a point to assess their eligibility for Ubuntu Membership as well as some technical questions, because in reality, an Ubuntu Contributing Developer is simply an indirect route to Ubuntu Membership like e.g. Lubuntu Membership is.
Additionally, the applicant provided a thorough answer which clearly demonstrated what I was looking for as a former member of the Ubuntu Membership Board and as a current member of the DMB.
This was the exception rather than the rule. Obviously, I generally agree that we need to allow time for DMB members to respond as a rule.
I stand by my decision, but I do apologize to you and the other absent members personally for not allowing you the chance to ask the applicant questions prior to announcement.
