I think the opposite. From some of the answers, it's been obvious to me
that most applicants _aren't_ receiving such realtime coaching. I also
assume good faith that this isn't happening. And finally, community
candidates aren't 'on their own' because they explicitly have
endorsements who could also be receiving such input. So I don't think
anything would change by moving to the mailing list - it's a level
playing field already.

As I said previously, it's the social side I'm most bothered about
assessing in realtime. I'm far less concerned by the technical quality
of their work, for which I rely on endorsements. I don't bother trying
to second guess sponsor endorsements on technical work quality, because
if an application were refused, an endorsing sponsor is likely just to
continue signing the applicant's work without much review anyway.
