Does gtk2-engines-gtk-qt have anything to do with it? In other words, if having run KDE prior to running GNOME there exists a ~/.gtkrc-2.0, does renaming ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (or removing it) allow proper volume control after logging out and back into GNOME? -- volume sliders inverted in gnome https://launchpad.net/bugs/41999
