xchat-gnome gets my font settings from the gnome-terminal which in turn
gets its setting from gconf2.  According to System -> Preferences ->
Font, my fixed-with font is Monospace 10.

I'll send a shot soon.  No system-wide or user-specific changes were
done to fontconfig.
