Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31695

Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:

My laptop can boot a number of different OSes
and the grub installation I happen to use way laid
down by another GNU/Linux disto.

That means I don't have grub installed nor a /boot/grub directory which
the new ubuntu-artwork needs.

Setting up ubuntu-artwork (0.2.28-1) ...
update-alternatives: unable to make /boot/grub/default-splash.xpm.gz.dpkg-tmp a symlink to /etc/alternatives/grub-artwork: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing ubuntu-artwork (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 ubuntu-artwork
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
