While investigating another bug (14802), one of the things I did was to pass > irqpoll < to the kernel from grub.  
For some reason, it fixed my audio under kubuntu (daily build 14sept05). Didn't help my networking, but still. 
I'll test repeatablity after I done with what I'm doing.
