Summary: Unminimize/minimize ordering for single windows and
window groups
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: gnome-panel
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: kotatsu at gmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
When a group exists in the window list applet, right clicking displays a
contextual menu that allows a user to minimize all or unminimize all windows in
the group. Individual windows (ungrouped) present a choice that reflects the
current state of the window: "Minimize" if the window is visible, and
"Unminimize" if the window is already minimized. In the "natural" state of a
window after opening, it is visible on the screen and the window list contextual
menu presents "Minimize" as the top choice in the menu. With a window group,
however, the right click menu always shows "Unminimize All" and "Minimize All"
as choices regardless of the group state, and places "Unminimize All" at the top
(seemingly most important position) of the menu. This seems counterintuitive
because window groups, like single windows, are naturally unminimized at first.
When moving across a window list to quickly minimize windows and groups, the top
choice in the menu is "Minimize" for single windows and "Unminimize All" for
window groups. While certainly a trivial issue, it requires that the user stop
and read each choice to determine the correct option between the similar-looking
"Unminimize All" and "Minimize All" choices instead of simply picking the top
option in the list as they would with the more common case of individual windows.
Ideally, the program group should only display "Unminimize All" if any windows
in a group are already minimized, but at the very least it would be a bit more
intuitive to place the "Minimize" option at the top of the window group
contextual menu as it is in the menu for an individual window.
