Summary: nautilus file browser windows never show backup files
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: nautilus
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: cs-usenet at arcor.de
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Overview description:
---------------------
(This is on Hoary, fresh install, no updates yet.)
In file browser windows, it is possible to display hidden files (with Ctrl+h,
for example), but backup files (ending with a tilde ~) are never shown. In file
object windows, Ctrl+h toggles the display of both hidden files and backup files.
Steps to reproduce:
-------------------
1. Disable spatial mode, as described in the Ubuntu FAQ at
<URL:http://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/documentation/faq/helpcenterfaq.2004-10-07.0184507726>.
2. View a directory that contains both hidden files and backup files.
3. Toggle the display of hidden/backup files with either
- Ctrl+h
or
- System -> Preferences -> File Management
[+] Show hidden and backup files
or
- Applications -> System Tools -> Configuration Editor
[+] /desktop/gnome/file_views/show_backup_files
Actual results:
---------------
None of these three methods shows backup files in browser windows, but the first
and second one show hidden files.
Expected results:
-----------------
All three methods should make backup files visible.
4. Now, go to the File Management Preferences, Tab `Behaviour' and
deselect `Always open in browser windows'. Now there are backup files!
But I want to see them in browser windows...
