Thank you all for your replies, which I read from the ML archive. Please
keep me CC'd since I'm not subscribed.
Eric, you proposed to do a lightweight checkout, make a tarball of it, and
copy it to the low end machine. Actually lightweight checkouts are pretty
unusable even on recent hardware, for lp:gcc over network. I think it took
almost 5h-6h to finish and transfered ~8GB, and like Andrew mentioned,
they are not intended for network.
But I think I'll try what you proposed with a stacked branch (even though
they also transfer many times more data than what is finally written to
disk). I'll pack it, make the tarball, and use this on the low-end
machine. Hopefully no repacking will be done with the few commands I'll
try.
BTW, is there any way to disable automatic repacks?
Thanks,
Dimitris
