Yes.  I'm not going to go beyond what Max said in detail, but I'd like
to mention that as you describe your workflow, it looks like a
so-called "star topology project".  No more complicated than what you
and Max have described but the fact that it's common enough to have a
name should be reassuring (bazaar is very happy to manage star
topology projects).
