I think we can cover our various audiences by having just the one set of
documentation with layers within it:

1. The User Guide - process centric and aimed at anyone wanting VC
2. The User Reference - all the nuts & bolts in detail.

I agree both need work, particularly the Concepts section in the latter.

Perhaps Matthew's wiki pages and/or Alexander's articles can be turned
into concept topics and included there? We also need to rationalise the
"Diverged Branches" vs "Branches out of Sync" topics. See
