The first 1.17 release metronome (1.17rc1 on 2009-07-09)

Hello everybody,

My name is Jonathan Lange and I will be your release manager for the
1.17 release.

First, my apologies for not sending a metronome email earlier.

Second, the 1.17rc1 release is scheduled for Thursday, July 9th, 2009.
The 1.17 final release is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th, 2009.

The focus, as for 1.16, is to hone our support for the 2a format in
preparation for the 2.0 release. Please look at:

There are:
  * 25 approved or conditionally approved patches on bundlebuggy

  * 8 proposals ready for landing on Launchpad

  * 7 proposals on Launchpad without any vote
    https://code.edge.launchpad.net/bzr/+activereviews


Some other items of interest:

  * The Launchpad team is now using 2a for Launchpad development.
There have been some problems, but they are well on their way to being
fixed.

  * As a somewhat related item, there'll be a 1.16.1 release, which I
hope to do soon.

  * There will be a sprint at EuroPython, focusing on making lots of
small user experience improvements.
