I don't know about all of Canonical's activities, but I'm under the
impression that their prime focus is on Ubuntu platforms.

Speaking from personal experience, the outlay and human involvement
needed to support multiple test platforms covering the major OS's is not
a "small outlay". Even looking at "Windows", there are actually several
OS's still in general use and they all have their own issues (ME, NT,
2000, XP, Vista, ...). On the Linux front there is the problem caused by
fragmentation. Ubuntu, RedHat, SuSe ... This should not be seen as a
'don't do it', more as a do-able for a couple of the major players, but
don't expect full coverage.
